The Greene County football senior class continued to rake in the honors when the Iowa Print Sportswriters Association released their 2019 All-State football teams. The Rams have five players, all seniors, spread over the three Class 2A teams named by sportswriters from across the state. The Rams were 9-2 in 2019 and second in District 9 to eventual State Champion OABCIG. The other loss was in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs to semifinalist Algona.
Carter Morton was named to the first all-state team as a kick returner. He had two kickoff returns and three punt returns for touchdowns, in addition to being an outstanding receiver.
Iowa State University offensive line recruit Tyler Miller was named to the writer’s second team after a dominating senior season. The 6′ 9″, 290 lbs. tackle was named to multiple first all-state teams as a junior. Joining Miller on the second team was running back Colby Kafer, who was among 2A’s leading rushers.
On the third unit was quarterback Brent Riley and kicker Cael Fisher. Riley threw 31 touchdown passes to just five interceptions and Fisher was one of 2A’s top kickers.
