The Greene County School Board has officially shifted from seven to five members.

When the reorganization vote passed in 2013 for the former Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene School Districts to combine into Greene County School District, the school boards also combined, with J-S having five board members and EG with two. As part of the reorganization, the seven member board remained in place until this past November 5th’s election, when the board transitioned to five. Additionally since 2013, the school board elections have all been for at-large seats.

Board members Steve Fisher and John McConnell were recently re-elected, while two long-time members, Sam Harding and Dr. Mark Peters retired. Harding served for 26 years and Dr. Peters served for eight on the board. Superintendent Tim Christensen thanked each of them for their dedicated service.

“All of their decisions that they’ve made – in my opinion – had the best interest of students at hand, at heart and (I) can’t thank them enough for the fantastic job they did and what they’ve done for students, and the school and the community.”

Christensen notes consistency with the current board, as all members have worked together for two years. Fisher was elected as board president with Dr. Steve Karber as vice president. Christensen looks forward to working with Fisher, McConnell, Karber, along with Katherine Wilson and Mike Dennhardt moving forward.
