The 2019 Iowa High School football season is over and the Greene County Rams finished 9-2 and in second place in Class 2A District 9 to undefeated State Champion OABCIG. Fifteen Greene County players receive all-district recognition of some kind, including some of the highest honors district coaches name.
Senior linebacker Will Hansen was named Co-Defensive MVP of the District 9, along with lineman Blaise Gunnerson of Kuemper Catholic (Carroll). Hansen and 11 other players in the district were not only named to the first team, but were designated as “Elite”. The Rams had multiple “Elite” players in addition to Hansen. Senior Carter Morton earned the designation as both a wide receiver and as a return specialist. Senior Tyler Miller, the 6′ 9″, 290 lbs. Iowa State University recruit was Elite on the offensive line, and senior Xavier Hayes was named Elite as a defensive back even though he played in just two games. Hayes is recovering from a broken leg suffered in practice.
Others on the first team for Greene County are seniors Brent Riley at quarterback, Colby Kafer at running back, and Nick Breon at linebacker. Second team selections for the Rams are senior two-way lineman Gage Michaelsen and sophomore linebacker Bradyn Smith. Honorable mention Rams are seniors Cole Betts (OL/DE), Brandon Hoyle (OL), Joe Patterson (DE), junior Jaxon Warnke (WR/DB), and sophomores Mason Stream (OL) and Jackson Morton (DB).
