The public is reminded they can meet a rare species of bird and learn about local efforts to restore its population in Guthrie County today.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Training Specialist Anne Riordan is hosting a meet and greet with a young trumpeter swan at Springbrook State Park. This swan was hatched last spring at the Bronx Zoo in New York and was flown to Iowa this week, where it will be raised on a private pond in southern Iowa and then eventually released, as part of the Trumpeter Swan Restoration Program. This is a free event that will take place from 1-2 p.m. at the Upper CCC Shelter at the park. For more information contact Riordan at 641-295-6028.
