The Jefferson Street/Sewer/Sanitation/Water committees met earlier this week in regular session.
The meeting began with the water committee. Following a discussion with a local landlord, the committee decided to not change the City’s policy regarding a minimum monthly water charge after the landlord complained that he was charged for one month of water usage, when a tenant left and the water was then in his name for a couple of days.
The street committee allowed Greene County Historical Society Executive Director Roger Aegerter to paint a one-foot wide mural on the sidewalk from the historical museum to the Thomas Jefferson Gardens on Lincoln Way. The design will feature the Lincoln Highway from New York City to San Francisco. Then the committee requested cost estimates to install a sidewalk on part of Cedar Street where Region XII Council of Governments is building a couple of homes. Additionally, the committee allowed the Public Works Department to purchase a Kubota utility vehicle for $25,000 for the parks department. Finally, the committee agreed to recommend an ordinance change to the City Council to allow for parking on only the north side of East Wilcox Way.
Following repairs made to a water line at 503 East Vest Street, the sewer committee decided not to pay the homeowner’s sewer clean out bill of $1,700. The committee felt the City has done extensive work to repair a failing water line and replace concrete in the homeowner’s driveway at the expense of the City.
