Two Perry civil servants were honored recently for their service to the community by a local veterans group.

On Tuesday, the Perry Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2060 honored Wayne Schuttler and Frank Eiteman as their Officer and Firefighter of the Year, respectively. Post Commander Nathan Hoffman presented the awards, which are given each year to one officer and firefighter who exemplify professionalism and public service to the Perry community. Patrol Officer Schuttler has been with the Perry Police Department for 24 years and has served as a special tactics, firearm, and munitions trainer for new recruits for much of his career.

Eiteman, a war veteran and member of the Perry VFW himself, has been involved with the Perry Fire Department for 36 years, serving in several roles including Rescue Captain and First Assistant Chief. The pair were recognized at the Fire Department’s monthly meeting at the Perry Public Safety Building Tuesday evening.
