The Panorama School District is seeking to improve their response protocol to critical incidents following the District’s fall School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC) meeting.

Superintendent Shawn Holloway says he and the SIAC committee discussed communication during critical incidents following an event that occurred this fall, “So we had a non-credible threat earlier in the year that some of our community felt was not communicated out in a timely fashion, and so I think really the protocol that was in my report is as much a communication protocol more than specific to situations.”

Holloway says three values that were stressed during the discussion were trust, common sense, and integrity. He informed the School Board at their November meeting that he is working with the committee to get a solid protocol in place. The protocol involves several steps the District will take after a report is made of a potential incident. Panorama staff are also reminded that in accordance with the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, school employees may not disclose student information to people outside the district unless there is appropriate parental consent, or in the case of a health or safety emergency.
