As we get closer to this year’s filing deadline for Medicare, the Perry Public Library is offering the next program in their Medicare Basics series.
Library Director Mary Murphy says the events have been very informative and people have learned a lot of important information, so she encourages anyone age 50 and older to attend. The seminar will be held tomorrow at 6 p.m., and will be conducted by licensed insurance agents. However, Murphy emphasizes the speakers won’t try to sell attendees anything, as their only purpose is to educate. “Somebody told me there were 56 ways that you can claim or establish yourself with Medicare when you get to be that age. And they’re not going to help you. Nobody’s going to help you at the Social Security Office when you go down there. So you will have to have your act together and know what you’re going to claim as yourself. So I think the more education, the more of these seminars that you go to, the more you can make an informed decision.
There is no cost to attend the program, but registration is required. For more information or to sign up, stop in or call the Perry Library at 515-465-3569.
