The most successful season of high school football playing as the Greene County Rams came to an end on Nov. 8 with a loss in the quarterfinal round of the Class 2A playoffs. The only losses were to number 4 OABCIG (Ida Grove) and number 3 Algona, and oddly enough, those two teams play each other today at 4 p.m. inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. The winner advances to the Nov. 22 title game and the losing team has its season come to an end.
The Rams averaged 37.8 points per game, but were well below that in the two losses. OABCIG won 35-13 and Algona was a 48-15 winner. Greene County had more than 400 total yards of offense vs. the Falcons to end the regular season, but the Bulldogs held the Rams to 248 in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
Conversely, Greene County allowed just under 17 per contest for the entire season, but those two teams combined to put 83 on the board against the Rams.
The other 2A semifinal is inside the UNI-Dome tonight at 7 as number 1 Waukon faces number 11 Williamsburg.
