The Greene County Development Corporation Board met earlier this week in regular session.

Greene County Early Learning Center gave a presentation on whether to renovate their current facility or to build new. The estimated cost to renovate is $1.7 million and to build new is about $2.9 million. The Board took no action following the presentation.

GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton said he was contacted to sell the former Genesis Development building, due to Imagine the Possibilities looking for a smaller office space. He then mentioned presenting the idea of the Lincoln Corridor to Western Iowa Advantage in hopes of getting the counties in that organization to gauge their interest. The Lincoln Corridor involves Jefferson, Perry, Boone and Carroll as a region to attract large west coast technology companies to locate a satellite office.

During reports, it was mentioned that the City of Jefferson has a signed purchase agreement, pending City Council approval, for the former Angie’s Tea Garden at the intersection of East State Street and North Wilson Avenue. Additionally, Wild Rose Casino and Resort reported their recent hiring of 11 new employees for the food and beverage department and that Coaches Corner restaurant is open everyday.
