Since the start of this month, the Good Samaritan Food Pantry in Adel has been open extended hours, offering more opportunities for the community to take advantage of the service.
The pantry is still open every Monday and Tuesday from noon-2 p.m., as well as by appointment, but they’re now also open from 5-7 p.m. Monday evenings. The operators of the pantry said there were some clients they served that work during the day and had a hard time making it during the normal hours. While those individuals were able to make appointments in the past, the pantry organizers felt it would be beneficial to give them a regular time that would work for their schedules.
So far, the number of people coming in during the new hours has been low, but the operators expect that to pick up as more people find out about it and as we get closer to the holidays. Additionally, they are always looking for volunteers to help serve the patrons, particularly during the new evening hours. Anyone interested in helping out can call the pantry at 515-478-3760, or visit their website by clicking the link below. The Good Samaritan Food Pantry is located in the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District Administration Center at 215 North 11th Street in Adel.
