A Carroll doctor was arrested for allegedly crashing his vehicle onto a residential property and operating while intoxicated early Friday morning in Guthrie County.
According to the criminal complaint, at about 1:08 a.m. the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident in the 2800 block of Highway 44 in Panora reporting that a champagne-colored Hummer had crashed through his gates and was tearing around his yard. A deputy and Panora Police Officer arrived on scene when the Hummer had left, going eastbound on the highway. Law enforcement spoke with the victim, who estimated approximately $2,500 in property damage, as the gates at the end of the driveway were lying on the ground, completely destroyed. They also followed the tire tracks in the yard and picked up debris from the vehicle. Law enforcement obtained a surveillance video and recorded the license plate information.
The police officer later found the Hummer stopped on Highway 44 near Utopia Avenue, on the east side of Panora. The suspect then headed eastbound, leading the officer on a pursuit. At 1:28 a.m. the officer advised dispatch the vehicle stopped near Viola Avenue, where the officer apprehended the suspect, 41-year-old Nicholas Josef Kuiper. Kuiper was then transported to the Sheriff’s Office for eluding and took a breathalyzer test, which showed he had a .201 blood alcohol content level, over the legal limit of .08. He was then processed and booked into the county jail.
Kuiper is charged with second degree criminal mischief, a class D felony; and operating while under the influence first offense and eluding, both serious misdemeanors.
