Greene County went 9-2 during the recently completed football season under the direction of first year head coach Caden Duncan. We talked about the offense earlier this week. Today, we look at some of the leaders on defense.
The three regular linebackers were also the top three tacklers. Senior Will Hansen had 76 total tackles (52 solo, 48 assists) with senior Nick Breon at 44.5 (19 solo, 51 assists), and sophomore Bradyn Smith at 42.5 (16 solo, 53 assists). For statistical purposes, a solo stop counted as 1/2 tackle. Those three also led in tackles for loss.
Sophomore defensive back Jackson Morton led players in the secondary with 24.5 total tackles and senior lineman Tyler Miller led linemen in tackles with 20.5.
The Rams were among the 2A leaders in interceptions with 15 and nine different players had at least one pick, led by senior Carter Morton with three. Breon had three of the Rams’ eight fumble recoveries.
The season ended with a playoff loss in the quarterfinals at Algona last Friday. The Rams won their first round playoff game at Des Moines Christian for the first football playoff victory in the eight seasons playing as Greene County.
