Wednesday morning, there was a special meeting of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors to conduct the first canvass of the recent city and school election.
Auditor Julia Helm said they went through the County-specific races, which mostly included city elections. She said they didn’t spend a lot of time on the school board canvass, because with the exception of Waukee, all the districts in Dallas County cross jurisdiction lines. As such, Helm pointed out, they won’t have firm results for those until the second canvass next week. In regards to the results that were made official Wednesday, there weren’t any changes from the initial winners reported following last Tuesday’s election.
Helm added, the biggest thing they went over were the cities that required write-in candidates, because no one registered to be on the official ballot for certain positions. Write-in winners around the County included: Aleasha Kuebler as Mayor of Bouton and Jeff Kruse, Jordan James, Kevin Robinson, Mike Miner, and Nick Kuebler for the Bouton City Council; Jared Wolfe and Sarah McAndrews for Dexter City Council; and Thomas Kauzlarich as Mayor of Linden. Voter turnout for the County was 14%, which the Auditor’s Office reported was higher than a typical city or school election, though not substantially.
The second canvass will be held this coming Tuesday morning during the regular Supervisors meeting.
