United States Congresswoman Cindy Axne had a busy Veterans Day this year, as she braved the icy roads and visited four counties in Iowa’s Third Congressional District.

Two of the locations she visited were Panora and Adel. She held a “Connect with Your Congresswoman” gathering at the Panora Public Library in the early afternoon. She then headed to Dallas County for a roundtable discussion with veterans at the Adel American Legion. Axne told Raccoon Valley Radio that many of the issues raised during the day involved veterans affairs benefits and health coverage. She said people at the local and state level are attempting to make sure the best policies are in place to support veterans, but that there are a lot of gaps and a need for more coordination.

She promised to address the issues that she can at the federal level to make things more cohesive across the board. Overall Axne said she learned a lot during the day, and felt her Veterans Day was well spent. “Well, my day’s been great, I’ve been surrounded by veterans so I couldn’t be happier! (They’re) great people helping to work on issues that people are facing in our district, and helping us come up with answers to better serve our veterans. So I’m thrilled to be able to do it!”

Finally, Axne thanked all the men and women who have served or are currently serving in the United States armed forces, as well as their families, for their service and sacrifices.
