It’s the quarterfinals of the Iowa High School football playoffs tonight. Greene County plays in Algona against the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. with coverage starting at 6 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Algona is number three in the Class 2A RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) and is 10-0 and winners of District 2. The Rams are 9-1, number 8 in RPI, and the runner-up from District 9. District 9 champion OABCIG (Ida Grove) is also still playing, and District 9 is the only 2A district with more than one team among the eight remaining.

Greene County head coach Caden Duncan talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the Bulldogs. “They’re a run-first team out of the pistol or shotgun. Over the course of the season, that’s kind of played to our strengths. We’ve got a lot of good linemen and linebackers, and have shut down a lot of good running backs this year. Atlantic’s running back ran for almost 2,000 yards and we held him to under 100 (64 yards), so it kind of plays to our hand, but they’re definitely the best team we’ve faced this year as well. They have a really solid offensive line, good running backs and receivers, so it will be a tough challenge.”

Tonight’s winner advances to the semi-final round on Saturday, Nov. 16 inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, while the losing team will have its season come to an end.
