A large and talented senior class has led the Greene County High School football team to a 9-1 record, number 8 in the Class 2A RPI (Ratings Percentage Index), and a spot in Friday night’s playoff quarterfinals at Algona High School vs. the 10-0 and number 3 Bulldogs.
Among the seniors is two-way lineman Gage Michaelsen. He talked with Raccoon Valley Radio and commented first about the tremendous fan support the Rams have. “It’s crazy that we’re such small communities and everyone is getting together to support the team.” When asked what he likes about the 2019 Rams, Michaelsen said, “I like that I get to play with a lot of the seniors in the same grade with me. We’ve been playing together since third grade and it’s really something special that I get to share the field with them.” He and other Rams have made changes in the past year that have helped both physically and mentally. “I think I’ve changed a lot. I’ve gotten a lot quicker and a lot stronger. Compared to last year, it’s pretty much a night and day difference.”
This is the third straight road game for the Rams and all three have been against top 10 rated teams. The Rams lost the regular season finale in Ida Grove to OABCIG, then won the playoff opener in Urbandale vs. Des Moines Christian. Now, it on to Kossuth County and Algona, close to the Minnesota border. You can hear Friday’s game on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage starting at 6 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m.
