The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department is starting up some winter programs this month.
Assistant Director Nathan Kral says a new program aims to inspire those who want to try a triathlon, but in an unconventional way. The Lazy Man Triathlon lasts six weeks with goals in three different areas. Participants are required to complete 26.2 miles on a treadmill, cross-trainer, or on the in-door walking track. Another 112 miles must be done on a stationary bicycle and the last goal is 10,560 feet of rope or 50,000 meters on a rowing machine. Kral talks about why he wanted to create a new program like this.
“Something different, something to do indoors during these cold months. Get a little exercise in over these holiday months where you know you can, maybe some people can pack on a few more pounds eating too good, as I like to do.”
Your progress must be recorded at the Greene County Community Center, but you can do the exercises at the rec center or elsewhere. The fee to participate is $20, which includes a free t-shirt if you complete the program. An application can be found below, otherwise you can call 515-386-3412 or stop into the community center.
