On the Tuesday following Veterans Day, the Stuart Public Library will be visited by a notable veteran and former U.S. president for the final speaker program of the year, hosted by the People Active for Library Service (PALS).
Marshalltown resident Pete Grady will perform his one-man show, titled “Unconditional Surrender: A Visit with Ulysses S. Grant.” A Humanities Iowa speaker, Grady has performed the show about the life and times of the Civil War General and 18th president of the United States over 60 times in Iowa and neighboring states. Besides volunteering for the Marshalltown Community Theatre, Grady is a retired Assistant Attorney General for the Iowa Department of Justice. PALS Member Carol Brewer comments on the breadth of Grady’s experience, “It is very interesting because (of) how active he is in these presentations and yet his law career, it’s just amazing to me. And the other thing that’s amazing is that people of this caliber will come and want to be a part of developing the community and also Iowa, but also he’s in different states too. So I think he’s just a very flexible person that just loves what he does.”
“Unconditional Surrender” lasts about an hour long and includes period music, photographs, and cartoons for an informative and entertaining program. It takes place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 12th at the Stuart Public Library, and is free and open to the public.
