A Jefferson woman was recently sentenced for a December 2018 incident in Rippey.
According to court documents, 48-year-old Beth Anne Laurent pled guilty to a lesser charge of an aggravated misdemeanor for third-degree theft. She had all but 14 days of one year prison sentence suspended. She will then be on probation for one year with the Greene County Sheriff’s office and Boone County Probation.
The charge stemmed from a December 9th incident. Laurent stole over $1,000 of jewelry from a Rippey home where she was staying. She was also ordered by pay over $2,000 in fines, court costs, victim restitution, and surcharges. She was originally charged with a Class D Felony for second-degree theft.
Laurent is also awaiting trial for an additional charge in connection with the same incident. She was charged with a Class D Felony for second-degree theft. Court documents show Laurent left the same Rippey residence following an argument with her husband, Chris. A witness said Beth left in a Geo Metro car.
On December 19th, a deputy located the vehicle at a Grand Junction residence. The license plate matched one that was reported stolen from the victim in Des Moines. The vehicle was then impounded. Beth was interviewed about the incident and she claimed the victim let her borrow it and she said she left it at several addresses for the victim to pick up. However, the victim told investigators he loaned the vehicle to Beth for a couple of hours. He then reported the vehicle stolen when it wasn’t returned.
