A couple of Jefferson residents face charges for drugs.

According to court documents, 63-year-old William Richardson is charged with a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense of possession of methamphetamine, an aggravated misdemeanor for his third or subsequent offense of possession of marijuana, and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges stem from an investigation by the Jefferson Police Department on June 25th.

Authorities responded to a verbal argument taking place at the intersection of East Reed and North Locust streets. A female said a bag was taken from her residence in the 300 block of North Chestnut Street. Law enforcement entered the home and found drug-related items, which were seized following an executed search warrant, including a pill bottle that contained a green leafy substance and marked for Brittany Smith. Results from the Criminalistics Laboratory were positive for marijuana. Smith was then arrested and charged with a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia and a serious misdemeanor for her first offense for possession of marijuana.

While executing the search warrant, authorities found an additional room marked private and it was believed to be occupied or rented by Richardson, who is believed to be Smith’s father. Another search warrant was executed and additional drug-related items were recovered. Test results were positive for marijuana and methamphetamine. Richardson was arrested earlier this week and booked into the Greene County Jail.
