In case you forgot, tonight is Beggars Night in Perry, and there are multiple other Halloween activities happening throughout town.
That starts with the annual Perry Chamber of Commerce downtown “Spooktacular,” which runs from 4-6 p.m. along 2nd Street between Willis Avenue and Pattee Street. That portion of 2nd, as well as Lucinda Street between 2nd and 3rd will be closed at that time. Motorists in the area are also reminded that the Perry Public Library is part of the “Spooktacular” route, so there will be kids crossing Willis throughout the evening as well. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be in attendance playing Halloween-themed music.
Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn says “Spooktacular” is a great and safe way for families to get out and enjoy Halloween. He also offers some safety tips for when kids venture outside of downtown for trick-or-treating. “If you have kids out there, make sure that a parent goes with them, it’s always a good idea so you can help be an extra set of eyes to watch for traffic. But also carry something reflective or a flashlight. Kids love them anyway, so give them a flashlight to carry or maybe some type of strobe lights that they can carry or they can put on their bag. Something like that so they can become a little more visible to vehicles and the drivers.”
The citywide trick-or-treating in Perry is from 6-8 p.m. tonight. Other free activities around town include the First Christian Church “Trunk-or-Treat” during “Spooktacular,” the Dallas County Hospital Safe and Healthy Halloween from 5-6:30, and the Rowley Masonic Community Haunted House from 5-7.
