The days are growing shorter but that’s no reason not to enjoy the outdoors, as evidenced by Springbrook State Park this weekend.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Training Specialist Anne Riordan is hosting a Night Sounds Hike from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the park. She asks participants to meet at the campground gazebo and dress for the weather, “It’ll definitely be dark at that time so it’s just a time to step outside and experience nature at night, which is just a completely different thing. It’s a different feel, it’s a different sound, I mean I don’t know what we’re going to see and hear (but) I’m guessing there will be some owls. It gives you a different feeling and we can hike along the trails and just see what’s going on and just try to listen and be a part of it.”

Riordan encourages the public to come experience Springbrook after dark and use their sense of hearing to see who roams the night. For more information, call Riordan at 641-295-6028.
