Charges have been filed from the officer-involved shooting that occurred in Stuart last week.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation filed charges in Adair County Tuesday for two counts of attempt to commit murder on a peace officer, a class B felony, against 52-year-old Randall Comly, of Stuart. The criminal complaint alleges that Comly fired rounds at Guthrie County Deputy Kent Gries and Stuart Police Officer Tyler DeFrancisco, who were both inside Comly’s residence at 615 Southwest 7th Street on October 17th. During the exchange of gunfire inside the apartment, Deputies Jim Mink and Steven Henry were struck by gunfire that came from the apartment while they were outside securing the perimeter of the property. Preliminary investigation suggests the gunfire that struck Mink and Henry may have been fired by the officers inside the apartment as they returned fire on Comly. The determining of who exactly fired the rounds is part of the ongoing investigation which may take several weeks, according to DCI.

All three deputies and DeFrancisco were treated for non-life threatening injuries and were released from the hospital last weekend. Shots were fired when the officers attempted to arrest Comly on a warrant from Clarke County. Comly is currently in custody at the Clarke County Jail.
