A Panorama high school student is seeking to show leadership skills while doing something to benefit the Guthrie County Fairgrounds.

Boy Scout Troop 153 member Kenten Benner, a junior at Panorama, is working on attaining the Eagle Scout rank with a service project that involves constructing a 30’ by 54’ Antique Tractor Display Building at the Guthrie County Fairgrounds. A Panorama FFA member and avid fairgoer, Benner shares how he came up with the idea, “I first came across a few years ago when it was all raining and we had to take cover and we really didn’t have places to put the equipment that we wanted to keep dry and that was kind of what it came from.”

Benner estimates the total project will cost $10,000, and over the last several months he says he’s raised about one-third of the funds through promoting the project at summer parades and festivals. He hopes other fairgoers and community members will help support the project by attending his breakfast fundraiser, silent auction, and bake sale that will be taking place from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday, November 10th at the event center on the fairgrounds. Benner will be accepting a freewill donation. Donations can also be made to the Guthrie County Fair Foundation with mention of the Eagle Scout project. He hopes to get the building constructed next spring. Donations can also be mailed to Benner at 3215 248th Trail, Panora, Iowa 50216. For more information call 641-757-1719.
