With October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Greene County Medical Center Imaging Department is offering additional mammogram screening opportunities.
Director of Imaging Jennifer Miller says they are open tomorrow for mammogram appointments. Currently they have 9:30am and 10:30-11:30am open. They also have 5 and 5:30pm appointments for the rest of this month to accommodate work schedules for clients. Miller notes that it’s important for women to get a mammogram screening because one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their life. Additionally, Miller says 80-percent of positive breast biopsies have no family history, and women’s risk of breast cancer increases with age.
Miller recommends women start getting a yearly mammogram starting at the age of 40. She adds that they have a 3-D Mammogram machine, which can give better results for women who have dense breast tissue.
