Two Guthrie County teams will take the gridiron tonight with the playoffs in their mind.
Panorama will make the eight-mile trip to Guthrie Center to play AC/GC. Both teams enter the contest with a 6-1 record. Despite the similar record, each team has used a different approach to find success.
AC/GC has used their offense to put up points, eat the clock, and beat down defenses down the stretch. The Chargers are averaging 47 points per game, which is sixth in Class 1A. Their offense is led by a thunder and lightning like running game coming from Gavin Cornelison and Kolby Jacobe. Cornelison leads the team with 899 yards. He’s been the teams number option as he has more than double the carries as anybody else on the team. The sophomore had a huge game last week, scoring five touchdowns for the Chargers. Jacobe isn’t far behind in yards with 765. The senior has been more of an explosive runner averaging nearly 11 yards per rush.
Panorama has led on their stout defense. The Panthers have held their opponents to less than seven points in four of their six games. Drew and Evan Taylor have been wreaking havoc all season long. Drew leads the team with 45 total tackles to go with his two sacks. The only other person with more sacks is Evan with three. Offensively, they have leaned on Dominic Walker and Luke South who have combined for a total of 17 touchdowns.
