Greene County High School will be represented in a state-wide honor choir.
Choir Director David Heupel says ninth grader Iles Hooper was recently selected for the Opus Honor Choir. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio students audition for the choir by submitting a recording of them doing a major scale, a section of “My Country Tis of Thee” and an excerpt from one of the Opus songs. Hooper talks about her initial reaction when she found out she had been chosen.
“I was really excited, but I think my parents were more excited than me. I thought that it was a prank because it didn’t seem like I would be able to make it into Opus or anything like that.”
She adds that making Opus Honor Choir was one of her life-long goals. Heupel points out that Hooper will join 180 other ninth graders that will perform in the ninth grade mixed choir on Thursday, November 21st. The choir will sing five songs during the concert at 4pm in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium on the Iowa State University campus.
