With city and school board elections fast approaching, the City of Jefferson reminds residents of political signage placement.

As per the City’s zoning ordinance for temporary signs for a call to action on a ballot for a primary, general or special election, the sign may not exceed 32-square-feet. City Administrator Mike Palmer describes where those signs should be placed.

“They need to be on private property. They can’t be on public property, which means that in front of a typical home, just a good way to look at it is your right of way line is just behind the sidewalk. You can always check the (Greene County) Assessor’s website to kind of get an estimate of where your property lines are.”

Palmer notes city staff can remove a sign if found in the City’s right of way. However, Palmer adds they don’t like to do that, and typically staff gives the homeowner a warning before signs are removed.
