It might not look like it, but now is the best time to plant trees, shrubs and other plants, according to the Jefferson Garden Club.
Master Gardener Jeanne Myers recommends planting trees and shrubs now so that you can enjoy them next spring. She talks about one of her favorite kinds of shrubs called the Burning Bush.
“They come in dwarf sizes. If you don’t have room on your property for one of the really large ones, which can be 10-15-feet tall, you can get a dwarf one and enjoy the same color in a smaller way.”
Myers adds that now is a great time to plant other flowering plants.
“Perfect time now to plant spring bulbs like tulips, and narcissus, and daffodils, that type of thing. They will bloom in the spring. Irises is another pretty flower that you can plant now and enjoy in April and May.”
Myers notes that with everything going into its dormant stage, fall plantings will work well to bloom next spring.
