The annual Dallas County Hospital Senior Health Expo will be held Thursday, with over 25 vendors filling the hospital atrium from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Caitlin McDowell, a physical therapist with 21st Century Rehab at DCH, says the Expo will be a great way for elderly residents to find out more about the services available to them at the hospital and surrounding area. “(It’s) designed just to give you information about the different resources you can find within Dallas County, to help you with your healthcare needs, (and) homecare needs. (It’s) just a wide variety, from therapy to home health services, to just all of the different community areas that you need as you age.”
McDowell will be offering a snippet of her “Aging in Place” workshop during the event, where she’ll discuss how people can stay in their homes longer as they get older. That will be held at 9 a.m. in the wellness education center. Another specific program will be from Nancy Hanna of Happy Heart Resources. From 10-11:45 a.m., she will demonstrate how laughter can help people destress and reenergize themselves. There is no cost to attend the Senior Health Expo, and attendees are free to come and go as they please.
