The sun shone brightly, much like the city’s signature water tower, for the Adair Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural fall festival and pie contest.
The Schafer’s Barn on the Hill was donated as the venue where kids activities were held Saturday morning through the afternoon, and two meals were served to benefit local groups. The Grant Sky Eagles 4-H Club served a freewill donation breakfast, and the proceeds of the chili dog lunch went to the Boys and Girls Club of Central-Southwest Iowa.
Event Organizer Brenna Westergaard called the event a success and said she’s already thinking of ways to improve upon the event next year. She comments on the positive feedback received, “A lot of them have said they hope that we continue to do it and we can only go up from here so we’ll include more next year hopefully and have another successful year.”
There were 18 entries for the pie contest, and the winner for best overall was Linda Mackrill with her sour cream raisin pie. Best youth and best pumpkin pie went to Shyann Young and Sophie Young, respectively. Attendees got to buy slices of the entered pies, with proceeds going to the City’s sesquicentennial celebration happening in 2022.
