The Perry varsity football team was shut down Friday night as they fell to Carroll 49-0 at Dewey Field.
The Tigers started strong, driving 80 yards with only running plays on their first possession, and scoring on a four-yard touchdown run by Korey Nieland. Perry made things interesting in the first, recovering two Carroll fumbles on consecutive drives, though they turned it over once themselves on an interception and failed to capitalize on the turnovers. The first quarter ended with the visitors up 7-0. The wheels came off for the Bluejays in the second quarter, however, as the Tigers scored touchdowns on four straight drives, three by Ryan Johnston, and one by Tory Feldman. Carroll led 35-0 at halftime.
It was more of the same in the second half, with the Tigers scoring on their first play from scrimmage in the third quarter, a 43-yard touchdown run by Brennon Kofron. Carroll got on the scoreboard one last time in the fourth, on a 10-yard run by Caden Kock. Perry had one last attempt at putting points on a board, driving to midfield, but their hopes were dashed by their second interception. The game ended with a final score of 49-0. The loss drops Perry to 0-7 this season, with a date in Boone next Friday to take on the Toreadors.
