The Jefferson Fire Department spent all day Friday at the Greene County Elementary building for its annual education program during National Fire Prevention Week.

Firefighter Tim Fester talked about what he enjoys about the program.

“I like to do it because it’s giving back to the community and also making the kids aware of what can go on if they don’t actually know what they are doing, we can kind of tell them what we’re doing, and how to do it, and stay put until we get there to help.”

The kids learned about fire prevention measures they can take in their own home and how to escape safely if there is a fire. Firefighters also wore the full uniform with an air pack to show the students how they look at the scene of a fire. The highlight of the program was when the kids went outside to see the equipment and shot fire hoses with assistance from fire personnel.
