The Adel Family Aquatic Center wrapped up the 2019 pool season in mid-August, and the Parks and Recreation Department had a chance to review how the year went.
At the recent Adel City Council meeting, Parks and Rec Director Nick Schenck gave a report on what was the seventh year for the aquatic center. He said they had several new events, such as two four-week sessions of “Aqua Zumba,” a summer kick-off in June, and “Twilight Tuesdays” at the end of each month. He pointed out, the pool was open for 74 of 79 possible days this year between June 1st and August 18th, with the five missed days mostly a result of inclement weather and the most they’ve had since 2014. There were nearly 30,000 visitors this year, slightly down from the last two years, but Schenck said the average of nearly 400 swimmers per day was in-line with previous seasons.
Finally, the aquatic center had around $178,000 in revenue, which included a 5% increase in concession sales which Schenck attributed to new food items offered. The revenue was under the expenses by around $15,000, but it was a smaller gap than there was in 2018. The pool is located at the corner of South 15th Street and Meadow Road in Adel.
