Greene County improved to 7-0 on the high school football season and 3-0 in Class 2A District 9 with a 26-0 victory in Atlantic on Friday night. The shutout was the third this season for the fourth ranked Rams, and it marked the fifth time in seven games the opponents’ offense did not score any points. Atlantic fell to 2-5, 1-2.
Quarterback Brent Riley and the passing game had another stellar night with four touchdown passes and no interceptions. In fact, the Rams had no turnovers vs. the Trojans and the first unit has turned the ball over just once in the last five contests. Riley found Nick Breon for seven yards, Will Hansen for 14, Jaxon Warnke for 41, and Carter Morton for 15, to account for the four TDs through the air. He was 19-36-0 for 228 yards and he now has 23 touchdown passes to just three interceptions. Riley and the passing game are averaging 228 yards per game.
Colby Kafer ran for 72 yards on 24 carries and he now has 1,038 rushing yards for the season. He’s the first Greene County player to top 1,000 on the ground since Daric Whipple in 2015. The Greene County team had 115 rushing yards on 38 carries, and 343 total yards.
Atlantic was held to 121 total yards with 57 on the ground and 64 through the air. Running back Tyler Moen carried the ball 24 times for 68 yards and he passed it for 70 yards. Moen also surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the season on Friday night.
Greene County took the ball away four times. Carter Morton and Hansen had pass interceptions, and Breon and Tyler Miller recovered fumbles
Both team had penalty issues with the Trojans being penalized 11 times for 98 yards and the Rams 10 times for 73 yards. .
Greene County led 13-0 after one quarter and 20-0 at halftime. The only second half points were score in the third period.
