Our first frost warning of the year will take effect later tonight in the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area.

The National Weather Service has Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties under a freeze warning from 10pm tonight through 9am Saturday. A freeze warning means temperatures will be below 32-degrees fahrenheit. It also means it could kill crops, sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing. National Weather Service officials say 15-25-miles-per-hour winds are expected today, which will produce 15-25-degree wind chills.

With Thursday’s rainfall, several waterways have risen. According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Middle Raccoon River near Bayard is above flood stage at 16.85-feet. Buttrick Creek near Grand Junction is approaching flood stage of 11.74-feet, with flood stage at 12-feet. The National Weather Service reports Jefferson saw 1.25-inches of rainfall Thursday, Guthrie Center had 1.22-inches and Perry received 0.83-inches.
