The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District hosted their 5th annual Tigers in Training event recently, raising almost $10,000 in the process.

Around 1,000 Adel Elementary students, staff, and parents gathered in the school’s gymnasium on September 27th, celebrating with the high school band and cheerleaders, while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. Due to inclement weather, the one-mile run around the school was cancelled, but the ADM administration still felt it was a successful and worthwhile event. The students did the majority of the fundraising leading up to the festivities, and the money will go towards long-term and short-term projects at the school.

Most of the $10,000 raised will go towards the ultimate goal of installing a walking trail around the perimeter of Adel Elementary’s playground. The rest will be used to install a new piece of playground equipment called an “orb rocker.” The “orb rocker” can accommodate as many as eight kids at once and helps develop balance and coordination. The equipment will be installed this spring. Elementary Principal Kim Anderson said the Tigers in Training day is something everyone looks forward to each year. She added, it’s a valuable experience that encourages exercise and community, while raising money for the school.
