Panorama would not let the eighth ranked team in Class 1A spoil their homecoming game.
Both Panorama and #8 Mount Ayr came into their contest Friday evening 5-0 coming off big district openers. The night started by Panorama’s cross country team finishing the annual rally run by delivering the game ball.
Both defenses shined in the first quarter not allowing a single point. Panorama was able to break the stalemate with a one yard touchdown rush by Luke South. Following the PAT kick by Michael Allen, Panorama led 7-0, a lead they would take into the halftime break. Immediately after Mount Ayr kicked off to start the third quarter, Panorama was able to add to that lead. South returned the kickoff 86 yards to extend the lead to 14-0. Head Coach Mike Kauzlarich said this was a huge moment as his team could focus on game management and shortening the game. Mount Ayr stayed in the game with a seven yard touchdown run, but that was their only score.
The Panther defense showed their ability to create plays all night. Despite allowing a season high 293 yards, the defense was able to force three fumbles and three interceptions. Panorama remains perfect and improves to 6-0.
Their next test will be in the form of undefeated #3 Van Meter next week in Panora.
