As harvest season begins, Governor Kim Reynolds has signed a proclamation lifting weight restrictions on Iowa’s roadways.
The proclamation allows for oversize and overweight loads of grain to be transported on all highways in Iowa, excluding the interstate system. It is for vehicles transporting corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage and stover that are overweight. The proclamation applies to those roads rated not to exceed 90,000 pounds gross weight without a permit, and those vehicles not to exceed the maximum axle weight within the Iowa Code.
The Department of Transportation will be monitoring the operation of the proclamation to allow for movement of the trucks involved in harvest and to ensure the safety of the public. The proclamation is valid through November 29th.
