A new art shop recently opened in Perry, though its owners are familiar faces around town.

Art on the Prairie Atelier at 1109 is located on 2nd Street in downtown Perry, and co-owners Jenny Eklund and Mary Rose Nichols had a soft opening for it during the recent Art Harvest Tour. Eklund tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Mary Rose Collection is still in operation, though it was starting to get a little crowded. With the new store, Eklund is excited for all the artistic opportunities now at their fingertips. “Mary and I had been wanting this space for years! Finally it comes to be that our dream is coming true. And with it, one side of this shop will be fiber/textile, the other side will be printmaking, letterpress, (and) wood cuts. You can see, if you visit our shop, one section of it we’ve already got things set up for screenprinting. We’re also going to do a special feature for Art on the Prairie, where the artists, we’re letting them create an Art on the Prairie design and silkscreen print them the two days of the festival, and of course give some t-shirts away free.”

Eklund adds, at any given time when you enter the store, you may see an assortment of professional artists working on any number of projects. It will also serve as the new headquarters for Art on the Prairie itself, which will be held on November 9th and 10th.
