Prior to last Friday’s 45-22 Greene County football victory over Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) in Jefferson, the Rams were about as balanced offensively between run and pass as any team. The ratio was 51% in the air and 49% running. Coach Caden Duncan’s team put up a total of 578 yards in the Homecoming win over the Knights with 388 passing from quarterback Brent Riley and 190 on the ground, 161 of that from running back Colby Kafer.

Riley threw five touchdown passes vs. the Knights, something that hasn’t happened often in the long history of high school football based in Jefferson. What’s more, he had four the previous week at Shenandoah for nine TD passes in the last two games, and they were to six different receivers- another rarity in the annuls of high school football here, which goes all the way back to October 8, 1898. Throw in the facts that Carter Morton had 201 receiving yards vs. Kuemper Catholic and Riley now has 19 touchdown passes in six games, and the Greene County passing game is in rarified air.

The Rams will try to keep it going this Friday in Atlantic. The Trojans are 2-4 on the season. They lost on Friday to undefeated OABCIG in Ida Grove last Friday, but held the high-flying Falcons to half their offensive average in the 28-7 loss.

Friday’s game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. It will be Homecoming for the Trojans.
