Around a month ago, the Dallas County “Freedom Rock” in Minburn was completed, and coming soon there will be an official dedication of the new landmark.

Painted by Greenfield artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen, the rock includes depictions of Perry war heroes the Wilson brothers on one side, and famous athletes and soldiers Nile Kinnick from Adel and Bob Feller from Van Meter on the other. The Minburn American Legion, which commissioned the artwork, has been working on other aspects of the overall project since Sorensen finished painting, including paving a walkway around the rock and installing lights. With everything now mostly completed, the Legion decided to hold a dedication ceremony on Saturday, October 19th.

The event is free to attend and open to the public, and will be held at 10 a.m. The “Freedom Rock” is located on the west side of Highway 169 in Minburn, just south of the Nineteen14 Depot.
