Adair County and surrounding residents met with a Democratic candidate for the 2020 U.S. presidential race Thursday.

U.S. Senator from Minnesota Amy Klobuchar held a meet and greet at The Corner Coffee and Antiques in Greenfield where she discussed her objectives on the economy, foreign policy, climate change, and the Affordable Care Act. Klobuchar shares why she feels she is the right candidate to be President, “So much of the struggle right now for Iowa and the Midwest is having a president there that doesn’t have their back, doesn’t get their issues. I went to the Senate and I said, ‘What are the key economic issues facing this country?’ And that’s why I got on the commerce committee and that’s why I got on the agriculture committee. I’ve shown not just words on a page or plans, I’ve shown a lifetime of support for these key economic drivers in Iowa and in the Midwest, and we got a president that hasn’t done that and isn’t doing it now. And if you want to have a leader that actually brings people together, gets things done, I’ve passed over a hundred bills where I’m the lead Democrat, my opponents that are in the Senate now don’t even come close.”

This was Klobuchar’s first campaign visit to Adair County. Earlier that day she held a roundtable discussion with U.S. Representative for Iowa’s 3rd District Cindy Axne (D) at Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy in Council Bluffs. The Congress members also sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue requesting that his department conduct a study on the economic impact of the Environmental Protection Agency’s biofuel waivers, or small refinery exemptions, that have been issued to free oil refineries from their obligation to blend ethanol into their gasoline under the Renewable Fuel Standard.
