With the changes made by the Iowa Legislature to combine the city and school board elections into one, voters are to be made aware of the modifications.
Greene County Deputy Auditor Billie Hoskins says the combination impacts school board elections more so than city elections.
“Everyone within the county will now vote in Greene County, no matter what school district you belong to. Where before if you were a resident of say Glidden-Ralston (School District) or a Perry School District, you would have to go to that county and vote. Now you would stay in Greene County and vote at a regular general election precinct.”
Hoskins adds, the number of precincts also changes. She says the school board elections will line up with the number of precincts that a city election has.
Hoskins points out a behind-the-scenes change for her office is the school districts that dip into Greene County from a controlling county, must include those candidates on a Greene County ballot for those voters to decide on. A reminder absentee voting starts October 7th for the November general election.
