A driver was transported to MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center after a single-vehicle wreck occurred west of Guthrie Center Thursday night.
According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched to the incident at the intersection of Highway 44 and Cherry Avenue at about 9:32 p.m. The deputy was informed that the driver, 56-year-old Terry Lee Robertson, was breathing but unconscious. Law enforcement then observed a white Chevrolet Silverado in the west ditch of Cherry Avenue facing the road. The truck was running and Robertson was slouched over the driver’s seat. After a few attempts to rouse Robertson, the deputy broke the rear driver’s side window and unlocked the vehicle. Robertson then woke up and appeared to be confused and worried. He was removed from the vehicle and transported by Panora Emergency Medical Services to MercyOne for further treatment.
Law enforcement was later informed that Robertson had previous brain injuries and possibly suffered a medical condition while driving, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and enter the ditch. There was no evidence found of another vehicle involved in the incident, and the truck is estimated to have suffered about $2,500 in damages.
