Perry High School is celebrating Homecoming this week, with the theme of “Is this Heaven? No, It’s Perry.”

The week is chalk full of activities, starting with different dress up themes for each day. Wednesday is Volunteer Day, when the students and staff will participate in community service, followed at 6 p.m. by the annual parade and community grill out hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. Thursday is the coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen, which includes a pep rally that starts at 8 p.m., and a bonfire to follow. Friday’s activities start in the morning with “High Five Friday” at the elementary, where the Homecoming Court and cheerleaders will greet the younger students.

The highlight of the week for many students involves an inter-school competition on Friday. Student Council Adviser Brenda Mintun explains, “In the afternoon we have our class competition day, our ‘Game Day.’ And that will start at 1:10 (p.m.) in the gym, and it’s just so much excitement in there, it is super loud. And (we) invite people to come out (and) take pictures and just see what that’s all about. Then whichever class gains the most points for the dress-up days and the Game Day then gets to run the spirit stick around at halftime, and kind of have bragging rights and get their name on the plaque.”

Also at halftime, there will be a fireworks show sponsored by the Class of 2020. The Friday festivities will conclude with the Homecoming Dance in the high school commons at 10 p.m., following the football game. Tickets are $7 per person and can be purchased in the high school office. As a reminder, Raccoon Valley Radio will have live broadcasts for both the coronation ceremony on Thursday at 8 p.m., and the game against Webster City on Friday at 6:30 p.m. To learn more about Perry’s Homecoming Week, click the link below to listen to the Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program with Mintun and Chamber of Commerce Director Lynsi Pasutti.
