Greene County High School’s top five ranked Class 2A football team has shown a dominant defense and a potent offense. First year head coach Caden Duncan’s Rams are 5-0 overall and 1-0 in District 9 after a 49-7 victory on Friday night in Shenandoah (1-4).
The Rams did not allow an offensive point vs. the Mustangs and that’s the fourth time in five games that’s been the case. Only Nevada in week 2 was able to score against Greene County’s defense. The Rams have pitched two shut outs and have allowed a defensive touchdown and a kickoff return for scores outside of the contest in Nevada.
Offensively, the Rams average 44 points per game and can score running the ball, passing the ball, and on punt and kick returns. Against Shenandoah, quarterback Brent Riley threw four TD passes to four different receivers, and that was without leading receiver Carter Morton, who missed the game due to injury. Riley connected on scoring plays through the air with Tyler Teeples, Bryce Stalder, Will Hansen, and Jaxon Warnke. Running back Colby Kafer had 94 rushing yards vs. Shenandoah to put him over 800 on the season.
Next up for Greene County is Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) on Oct. 4 in Jefferson at Linduska Field in the annual Homecoming game. The Knights are 1-4 this season and were the only team to hand Greene County a regular season loss in 2018. Friday night coverage on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com starts at 6 p.m. with coverage at 7 p.m.
