The City of Adel is about to begin work on their new waste water treatment plant in earnest, and to celebrate they are holding a ceremonial groundbreaking.
The community is invited to help kick off the project at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2nd at the project site, located at 208 North 5th Street in Adel. The City has been planning for the new plant for quite some time, as they need to replace the existing facility which is nearing the end of its useful life. City staff says the new treatment plant will have enhanced water quality and increased capacity to serve the growing community, as well as facilitate continued growth and development. The project will cost $11.65 million to complete, with $2.3 million paid through grant funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program. The contractor for the project is John T. Jones Construction Company of Fargo, North Dakota, and the preliminary construction has already begun.
The new treatment plant is anticipated to be up and running by late spring of 2021. The groundbreaking event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be provided.
