Unbeaten and top five ranked Greene County visits Shenandoah on Friday to begin Class 2A District 9 football. The 4-0 Rams and 1-3 Mustangs square off at 7 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage beginning at 6 p.m.
The Mustangs won a battle of 0-3 teams last Friday 52-14 over Class A Riverside (Oakland) to snap a 12 game losing streak that included all nine games last season and the first three this year. Greene County won the 2018 meeting with Shenandoah by a 62-0 score.
Not only did the Mustangs pick up an elusive victory, they put up offensive numbers unlike anything they’ve done in recent seasons. Shen had just 81 points all of last season and had scored 53 combined points in the three losses to start this season. The Mustangs ran for 257 yards and threw for 215 vs. Riverside for 457 total yards. Quarterback Kyle Cerven was 12 of 20 passing with a career best four TD passes and no interceptions. Runing back Morgan Cotten had 169 rushing yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns. The Shenandoah defense got in the act, too, coming up with four turnovers.
Greene County has not allowed the opposition offense to score in three of the first four games and the Rams are averaging 43 points per game.
